To make a mojito for 10 people, it's very simple: take our mojito recipe and multiply the quantities by 10. For 20? Same thing—multiply by 20. That's the end of the article.
At the beginning of CocktailMolotov, I could have written this article in a non-ironic way. If one person needs 5 cl of rum, then for 20 people, 100 cl of rum is required. And I wouldn't have minded writing that. My mathematical side. The problem is that Cuban rum is sold in 70 cl bottles! It's a bit different for agricole rum, which is more commonly available in 1 L bottles, but it's not recommended for making Mojitos.
As for mint, knowing that you need between 160 and 200 mint leaves is of no use. You buy mint bundles, not individual leaves!
In this article, I'll therefore give you a shopping list rather than a recipe. With the product names as they appear in supermarkets. Not the names you'd find in cocktail recipes!
The solution: make a Mojito style punch
The problem with a Mojito is that it takes a long time to prepare. So making twenty of them is extremely time-consuming. CocktailMolotov has the solution for you: prepare it as a punch. In fact, recently a version also exists a non-alcoholic version of our mojito punch !
We pour everything into a large bowl, which allows us to easily serve multiple glasses in succession. Because of the lemons, it's a bit tedious, but still very simple.
Otherwise, I call it a salad plate, but I find it a bit more elegant to serve cocktails in large quantities in a carafe or a pitcher. Why not in Is a clear glass bottle from Nachtmann?

Mojito for 20 people
Ingredients
- 2 bottles Cuban-style rum Havana Club
- 25-30 limes (15 for juice, 10 for garnish)
- 2 bunches mint
- 1 kg white sugar (plain white sugar, not brown sugar or demerara)
- 1 bottle sparkling water
- 2 kg crushed ice (in French)
Equipment
- Large mixing bowl
- muddler
Instructions
Before the guests arrive
- Take the first bunch of mint, remove all the leaves and put them in the mixing bowl.
- Add a generous dozen tablespoons of granulated sugar.
- Juice the limes bought for their juice.
- Add the juice to the bowl.
- Gently muddle the contents of the bowl. Do not crush the mint leaves into a purée: it looks unpleasant and extracts bitter flavours. The lime and sugar help with the process, so there is no need to press hard.
- Add 100 cl of Cuban rum. That is one full bottle and half of the second bottle.
- Stir gently to finish the main preparation. You can do this up to 24h in advance and refrigerate.

During the evening
- Take a glass and add crushed ice, a few lime wedges bought for garnish, and mint leaves from the second bunch.
- Pour 7-8 cl of the base mixture into the glass.
- Top up with sparkling water.
- Use a large spoon to distribute the lime wedges and mint leaves attractively in the glass.
- Garnish with a lime wheel or a sprig of mint.

Here you go, you're now ready to serve your thirsty guests with rum! Preparing a mojito for 20 people shouldn't scare you anymore!
Rum side: CocktailMolotov's recommendations
To prepare this cocktail, the easiest method is to buy Havana Club at a supermarket. It's available everywhere, not too expensive, it's Cuban, and it's a great value.
Now for a slightly more upscale Mojito that will impress your guests even more, I recommend two rum brands you should try in a Mojito.
Plantation 3*
My go-to versatile favorite. It works in all cocktails thanks to a blend of three rums (Jamaican, Barbadian, and Trinidadian). Plus, I really like the bottle design—and all the bottles in the Plantation range—greatly.
Flor de Caña Extra Seco
I came across it by accident recently, and I'm glad I did. Juan Pablo says it's extremely common in Latin America, kind of the base rum there. And well, they're lucky, because it's a hit in Daiquiri, and makes excellent Mojitos too.
At that price (22€ in March 2021), it's a gift!
